Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24 72, from Long Beach California. DuVernay was introduced to art through her grandmother Denise. She was an evening nurse in order to give her mother the space she required during the day for the love of art, literature, as well as theatre. DuVernay loved the film West Side Story, which she introduced to her. DuVernay was educated by her mother about how the arts can serve to promote activism. Similar to DuVernay's mom, she was conscious of her social status and influenced the importance of speaking up through art. Upon graduation, DuVernay studied in the University of California Los Angeles and earned degrees both in English as well as African American study. DuVernay was in college when she became interested in production for broadcast journalism. She was an CBS News intern during the O.J. Simpson's trial. DuVernay remembers being assigned to observe the house of a member of the jury as well as look through their trash. She was disappointed by her journalistic duties and decided to change to the field of public relations. DuVernay was immediately hired out of college as a junior publicist at a small studio. In 1999, she established her own company of public relations dubbed The DuVernay Agency.
