Steve Aoki

Steve Aoki was born on November 30, 1977, in Miami, Florida. He's an American electro house artist and record producer. He is also a D.J. and music executive. He is the third child of Rocky Aoki and Chizuru Kbayashi. His father was a wrestler who also founded the restaurant chain Benihana. He has two brothers: Kana (sometimes called Grace) and Kevin (owner Doraku Sushi restaurant). Half-sister Devon Aoki is a model and actress. He grew up in Newport Beach, California & graduated from Newport Harbor High School in 1995. There he was on the varsity badminton team. He went on to UC Santa Barbara, graduating with two B.A. He also earned two bachelor's degrees: one in feminist Studies and the other in Sociology. He was a college student who produced records by himself and hosted underground music in his Biko space at Santa Barbara Student Housing Cooperative. As a concert venue, the room became known as The Pickle Patch. He was also active in student activist activities at UCSB. He established a Revolutionary Anti-Imperialist League Chapter on campus. In his early 20s he had built his own record label, which he named Dim Mak-a reference to the idol of his youth Bruce Lee.
